Subzero XL - Large Area (Cold Weather)
RAPID REPAIR CONCRETE by CeraTech, IncDescription
SubzeroXL™ is a cementitious, rapid setting, structural repair concrete. It is a single component powder that is water activated. SubzeroXL™ has 25 to 30 minutes of working time and will reach compressive strengths of more than 2,500 within -10°F within 24 hours of final set. SubzeroXL™ can be applied in ambient temperature ranges from -10 to +40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Recommended Uses
SubzeroXL™ is an ideal material for large repairs within cold storage warehouses, freezers or other extreme cold temperature internal applications.

Site Preparation
Surfaces should be prepared in accordance with ICRI 03730, “Guide for Surface Preparation for the Repair of Deteriorated Concrete Resulting from Reinforcing Steel Corrosion.” and / or ACI 546R-96 “ Concrete Repair Guide” Concrete surface should be prepared by appropriate mechanical methods to obtain an exposed aggregate surface with a minimum surface profile of +/- 1/16” (1.5 mm) in accordance with ICRI 03732. Pre-existing coatings or surface treatments should be completely removed. Dry, clean, stable surfaces are required. Remove all standing water. Reinforcing steel should have no loose scale.

Mixing Instructions
  • Position concrete mixer in an area where ambient temperatures are between 30°F/-1°C and 50°F/10°C (Transport mixed material to repair site)
  • Pre-wet cement mixer with water then drain all water from mixer
  • Start mixer - Add 5 pints (2.8L) of water to concrete mixer per 63lb (28.7 kg) unit of SubzeroXL™ to be mixed (Water temperature should be between 50°F/10°C and70°F/22°C)
  • Add in pre-determined bag units of SubzeroXL
  • For repairs with surface temperatures below 20°F, add in one unit of CERATECH Subzero XL™ Extreme Cold Liquid Additive per unit of Subzero XL™
  • Mix for 10 minutes and pour.
  • Clean mixer or add water for next batch

Application and finish
  • Working times based on ambient temperature and total amount of water
  • Working times are influenced by surface temperature and repair profile.
  • Minimum profile thickness is 1.50” (3.8 cm). There are no restrictions to the depth of the repair profile.
  • For best results, CERATECH recommends monolithic placement of repair materials. Maintain a minimum thickness of 1.00 inch if repair material must be layered.
  • Upon initial set, a broom finish can be applied. Upon final set, the material can be saw-cut, drilled, sanded and/or polished.
  • Do not re-temper. The addition of water to the surface of the repair will negatively affect the materials final properties.
  • At ambient temperatures of 20°F / -7°C and above: General loading in 10 -12 hours for wheeled traffic, 3 hours for foot traffic following final set.
  • At ambient temperatures below 20˚F: General loading in 24 hours.
  • All previously existing joints must be re-established within 10-12 hours of final set.
  • In ambient temperatures below 20°F /-7°C, protect repairs for 24 hours with insulated thermal blankets.
  • Clean all tools and equipment with water prior to the material reaching final set.

  • This document does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this document to establish appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
  • Dispose of water materials in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • The use of a dust mask, safety goggles and gloves is recommended.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
